Gangotri Dham Yatra — 2N/3D from Haridwar
Package Overview
Embark on the sacred Gangotri Dham Yatra — a 2 Nights / 3 Days pilgrimage from Haridwar to the origin of the River Ganges (Bhagirathi) at 3,100m in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Gangotri is the second stop on the traditional Char Dham Yatra and one of the most spiritually significant sites in Hinduism.
Gangotri Temple is where the sacred Ganges (Bhagirathi River) originates from the Gangotri Glacier at Gaumukh, 18 km upstream. The temple was built by Nepalese General Amar Singh Thapa in the early 19th century. According to Hindu legend, Goddess Ganga descended here when Lord Shiva released the mighty river from the locks of his hair.
The temple closes on Diwali each year and reopens on Akshaya Tritiya. During winter, the idol is relocated to Mukhba village near Harsil. The sacred Bhagirathi Shila (King Bhagiratha's meditation stone) is located near the temple. The scenic drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri passes through the beautiful Harsil Valley, famous for its apple orchards and dense deodar forests.
