What is Chardham Yatra?
The Chardham Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, covering four holy shrines nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand: Yamunotri (source of River Yamuna), Gangotri (source of River Ganges), Kedarnath (one of 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva), and Badrinath (sacred abode of Lord Vishnu).
Best Time to Visit
The Chardham temples are open from late April/May to October/November. The best months are:
- May-June: Pleasant weather, clear skies, ideal for trekking
- September-October: Post-monsoon, fewer crowds, beautiful landscapes
- Avoid July-August: Heavy monsoon, landslide risk
